The Origin Of The Cell Phone

Fifteen years ago seeing a cellular phone was quite rare, and in today's technologically advanced world, just about everyone has a cellular phone. Adults, teenagers, and even children carry around portable models of the telephone.





Through the interesting history of the cellular phone, one can get the picture of how the portable wonder became what it is today.





In 1843, a skilled, analytical chemist named Michael Farady began exhaustive research to find a space that could conduct electricity. He told of his findings, and these advances of 19th century science and technology have had an incalculable effect on the development of today's cellular phone.





By the year of 1865 a dentist by the name of Dr. Mahlon Loomis became what is thought to be the first person who was able to communicate wirelessly through the atmosphere. Between 1866 and 1873 transmitted telegraphic messages 18 miles between the tops of the Cohocton and Beorse Deer Mountains in Virginia.





Dr. Mahlon Loomis developed a way of transmitting and receiving messages by using Earth's atmosphere as a conductor. He also launched kites enclosed with copper screens that were linked to the ground with copper wires. He was awarded a $50,000 research grant from Congress to continue his studies.





Then, in the year of 1973, a former general manager from the systems division of Motorola, Dr. Martin Cooper, became who is thought to be the inventor of the first portable handset. Dr. Cooper was also the first person to make a call using a portable cell phone.





In New York, he set up a base station with the first working prototype of a cell phone, the Motorola Dyna-Tac. He and Motorola took this technology to New York to show the public.





Later on, in 1977, the cell phone went public and public testing began. Chicago was the home for the first trials with 2,000 people. After Chicago, there were later trials in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, and then it spread to Japan in 1979.





Usual technologies changed in 1988 when the CTIA - Cellular Technology Industry Association - was formed to lay out realistic goals for cell phone providers. Research for new applications of development was included.





In 1991 the Telecommunications Industry Association set a new standard with the creation of the TDMA Interim Standard 54.





Cell phones have had quite a long journey. Although there was a great demand for cell phones, it took 37 years for them to become commercially available in the United States.





Wireless service was actually invented almost 50 years ago, so it's hard to believe that cell phones have only become popular over the past couple of decades. Currently, there are more than 60 million people who own cell phones.

Mobile phones were born when a number of mobile radio users decided to make mobile phone technology more popular. First Generation Phones

Mobile phones started to gain popularity in the eighties with the introduction of cellphones that were based on cellular networks.

Second Generation Phones



Second generation, also called 2-G, mobile telephones were introduced in the nineties. 2-G telephone systems were different because of their use of digital circuit switched transmission & the introduction of advanced & quick telephone to network signals. The introduction of 2-G systems saw telephones move from historic 1G telephones to small hand held items, which were much more portable. This change was made possible through improvements in technology such as more advanced batteries & energy efficient electronics.



The second generation mobile telephones had several advantages over 1G items. These included SMS messaging, which initially became possible on GSM networks & eventually on all digital networks. The very first machine-sent message was sent in Great Britain in 1991. The very first person-to-person SMS text message was sent in 1993 in Finland. SMS text messaging soon became the communication method of choice & the general public now prefer sending messages to placing voice calls.





The first pre-commercial 3-G mobile phone network was launched in Japan in May of 2001. 3G was later commercially released in Japan on October, 1 2001.



3-G is the third generation of mobile phone standards & technology, which succeeded 2-G mobile technology. The birth of 3-G technologies enabled network operators including orange to give their users a wider range of advanced services. This includes broadband internet, in addition to high-tech video calls.



Despite the success of 3-G, there has also been many complaints about it. These include criticism over the cost of 3G phones, a lack of network coverage because it's still a new service & the high power usage of 3G phones.



Ever since the launch of 3G mobile telephone technology, people have been discussing 4-G. 4-G technology will signify the future of mobile telephones, producing the most advanced handsets & best services to date. If you own a Go Pro HD camera then you will likely have an awful lot of footage from your sports and activities that you may not know what to do with. This means that a lot of the footage gets deleted and often never even gets watched first which is a great shame.

 

The Go Pro HD camera captures many still images or a few hours' worth of footage from your own perspective for you to use in any way you wish. However this can be fairly boring to sift through and most people will just find those great moments. For the ultimate impact then, and as a digestible way to show other people what you do, creating a video montage will allow you to pack in all your best moments and make yourself look as good as possible to as many people as possible as a result.

 

While you might have your bad days in your sport or activity, with a video montage no one has to know this and you can just show all your best feats in one long reel to ensure your audience just think you're amazing. By laying some music over the top, you can make every impressive piece of performance seem all the more extreme, like something out of an action film.

 

This can then be posted onto Facebook, onto YouTube or anywhere else to show all of your friends (who you might normally have a hard time convincing to watch your stuff), or onto message boards for like minded people where you can get them to critique (and praise) you as a colleague.

 

To make one of these videos you will need several things. First of all, use your Go Pro HD camera and get some footage of your activity – the more the better and remember anything you don't like won't be used. Next you should cut this footage down to only your favourite moments to make it easier to sort through.

 

Then you will need a great song. As a rule these video montages/samplers shouldn't last too much longer than three minutes (at a push) so you should pick a song around that tempo. Be careful as well when selecting the tempo. Obviously if your sport is rally driving or snowboarding then you're going to want an exciting rhythm and probably driving guitars to match the adrenaline rush of the sport itself, but if you pick some music that's too fast paced then it can be too fast for your footage which will make the content of the video itself look slow and/or boring as a result.

 

Thirdly you will need a good piece of video editing software. Once you've uploaded your footage from you Go Pro HD camera, it's the video editing software you'll use in order to cut your videos together and give them a flow. This is also where you will layer the music and any title or closing credits in order to make a complete video. This time round, it is the students and employees who are becoming annoyed. The Firewall stops them from connecting with their family and friends on Facebook.

Then someone came up with the idea of proxies. A proxy means that a website is accessed through another server. In other words, instead of making a direct request to Facebook, a request is first sent to a proxy server. The proxy server then send the request to Facebook, and retrieves the response. This response is then sent back to the workstation. To the Firewall, the user appears to be accessing the proxy server, which is not blocked. But in reality, this is just a workaround to allow access to Facebook. But what happens if the proxy server also gets blocked?

Firstly, this is highly unlikely, because a proxy server behaves just like an ordinary server. It is very difficult for a Firewall to detect a proxy server. Secondly, even if a proxy server is blocked, the user can always connect to another proxy server that is not blocked. And since there are literally thousands of proxy servers available on the Internet, it is almost impossible for Firewalls to block all of them.

Using proxies, you are free to access Facebook from school or from work, any time you want.
